Gen 1:31
Gen 1:31

THE DEVO

Come and doodle God’s character of goodness. I started doodling circles using borders instead of filling in areas as I normally do. It started looking like the world to me and I thought about Genesis 1:31:God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. God is good and He is good to us, He wants nothing by good for us. Romans 8:28 says: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who’ve been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV) . This is a verse that gives me great peace knowing that no matter what happens, because I love Him, it will all work out for good. God is so perfect and unchanging, What a great and good God we serve!

Here are some other verses on God’s goodness:

Ps 25:8 Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.

Psalm 34:8; Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him

Mark 10:18

Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

The Technique:

Instead of doodling in large areas, doodle borders. Consider doing a light water color wash before you start with your pen work. Make the washes in yellows radiating out to greens and blues. If you’re not using watercolor paper, don’t get your bush too wet. You can also use pastels to add color to the background before you start. Here’s a pattern sheet with some very simple borders to get you started.
