Hopefully you were able to catch last week’s post on why visual journaling is important. If not, you can catch it here:
So what does all that have to do with my quiet time? I contend that if we doodle or draw while we’re taking sermon notes or in our quiet time, we’ll go deeper in our walk with the Lord. The whole point is to grow in our faith and adding a visual element will deepen our walk with the Lord. The Lord wants us to remember all His blessings in our lives. If we take time to journal in such a way that we are likely to open it an read it again – we will have documented our faith and created a legacy for our kids to see how faithful God has been throughout our lives.
In the rest of the series I am going to talk about the various journals that you might want to keep. Here’s a list

Everything is pretty explanatory except for maybe the Life Journal, which seems to work best for me. A life journal is a combination of several journals. In my Life journal I doodle and draw a verse that’s speaking to me, I document things that are going on, gratitudes and prayers. I tried to keep up 4 different journals and it was driving me crazy. So now I have a journal for Sermon Sketchnotes, and a Life Journal. I am currently using oversized index cards for my daily quite time. That’s a project that I’ll talk about in a future post.
Stay tuned for next week and I’ll review each one of these journals in more detail so you can consider which journal is the best option for you.

This week’s assignment
This week I want you to grab an index card or similar size piece of paper. Doodle the verse Rejoice Always. Phil. 4:4.
Step 1 write out the verse on the card in big simple letters. Use All CAPS and make the letters nice and tall. Ideally, put Rejoice on the first line and Always underneath.
Step 2 enhance your letters by going over them a couple of times make them bolder. You can add dots , curlies, or little bars and the top and bottom of the letters.
Step 3. then start doodling around the verse with what ever comes to mind. Just doodle around the verse till most of the card is filled up.
Step 4; memorize the verse.
Congratulation. You’ve doodled your first verse!
See you next week as we talk about the different kinds of journals.
